La Vie est un long fleuve tranquille.
03 mai 2010
I haven't been posting stuff for a while, I admit that.
But I've been busy.
Snowboarding, going to pubs (best of Ireland and France, I believe)...
Passing exams, passing the driving license exam, moving in, working my internship.
Pretty intense...
Well, let's tell the story from the beginning.
It all started a few months ago, really, when I got back to France.
By the time, I was just realising that eventually I would need a driving license, and that it'd be better to have it before I begin my thesis.
Then I took driving lessons. In addition to my regular courses at first, and to my internship by the end.
Back then, I also found a flatmate, and I was very well aware that he would leave by the end of March.
Then, I was forced to move out by March.
And as always, I belated my driving exam. So that it came right after (10 days after, in fact) my regular exams, and right before (2 days before) my removal.
Actually, I realized just then that passing exams, driving license and moving in was a bit much of stress to go through in 2 weeks.
But then, I went through it, and was back into real life quite the same as usual.
Plus, it was sunny, and warm.
And moreover, Chloé was to come on a week end.
I was exited, it has been sunny for days, so that I was planning to go hiking.
But for the weather that decided to turn Irish to celebrate her coming.
Well, there were still museum, Grenoble has some culture, for God's sake, and some pubs.
So I got a little organized, so that there would be no more boxes, and that the flat should be comfortable enough.
I even called my friend to get his sofa in time (that would be on the very same late afternoon).
On the day before her arrival, everything was almost at place. Except that I forgot that it would be 1st of May.
That means no shop opened. And no museum opened. And almost nothing opened. Except pubs. (Sounds like an Irish place, doesn't it? A raining day without anything to do that to go to pubs.)
While I was leaving work earlier to get some decent food, and to be in time to get this sofa, I was urging my brain to come up with something to do this Saturday. I guessed that it would be like in old times, hiking under the rain. Landscape would be all grey and not as beautiful as it usually is, but then, that something. And museums would be open on Sunday.
Around this time of my thought, Marion, who was helping me to get the sofa, thanks to her big car, called me to say that the very car was blocked by the traffic.
I called Benoît (the owner of the sofa), and we decided to abort. And to take this to next week. That would mean right before my housewarming party.
All right. I'm used to short deadlines.
And right after that, while I was fighting with my keys to get in my flat (as I've been since I moved in), Chloé called me.
"Hi, I've got some troubles here...
- Tell me...
- I didn't catch my train. So right now, I'm going back home, checking if by any chance, there are another train that I can have to get to Grenoble as early as possible.
- Well, I'll leave you that, do your best."
Hanging up, without any hope that she would find any cheap tickets on a 1st May, I went in my flat with my shopping.
When Chloé called me back an hour latter, and told me that there were an only expensive train that would take her here for 4pm. I replied that she'd better try to get here later in the month, when hopefully it will be sunny enough to go hiking, or at least not on a holiday, so that we could go in museums if it rains.
After that rush, I relaxed, cooked some nice dinner, and read, listening to some folk music.
In calm. For the first time in weeks.
